Class descriptions 

Yoga Nidra 

Candlelit practice, offering gentle verbal guidance leading to a state of full awareness of the inner world within a deep state of relaxation.  Reduces tension and anxiety. All levels class.

Gentle & Meditation

Soulful, gentle movement with breath practices, to share in the sacred practice of yoga. Creating space for anyone interested in community with others. All levels

Slow Flow 

Practice includes yoga poses, breath, mindfulness, and connecting poses with various slow flow (moving) transitions. Practice moves slower than the regular flow class.  Previous yoga experience required . Modifications are offered througout the practice to bring poses into your body safely and thoughtfully. 

Community Yoga 

An all levels yoga class taught each Sunday from 4pm-515pm  Great way to become part of the BRV Yoga Community.   Class will offer resolve for your weekend, and offer renewal for the week ahead.  Minimum $5 donation.

Tai Chi 

This program emphasizes essential Tai Chi movements, integrating gentle, relaxed flowing movements, mindfulness, and abdominal breathing.  Focus is on balance and flexibility.  

Check schedule to see if Tai Chi is being offered.  It usually runs May through December 

Beginners Class- TaiChi(simplified) & Qigong -classes emphasize the essentials Tai Chi movements.  Integrating gentle relaxed flowing movements, mindfulness, and abdominal breathing.  Focus will be on balance & flexibility. Qigong exercises will be included in warm-ups.  

Yin Yoga 

A practice for those interested in receiving the amazing benefits of a yoga practice without overly strenuous activity, or as a great way to balance an active practice or lifestyle. Yin yoga (deep tissue stretching/strengthening) involves relaxing the muscles in order to work within deeper connective tissues in and around the joints.  Seated poses are held for 3 - 6 minutes.  All levels.

Gentle 

Slow gentle class of seated twists, folds, gentle hip openers, low back stretching, balancing and standing poses.  All levels 

Flow

A practice best suited for the yogi with flow experience. This class aims to build strength, tone and detox the body. Modifications are offered for your practice. Practice incorporates long holds in challenging poses with flow transitions using a vinyasa style flow.

Guys Yoga 

Guys what a great class just for you.  Do you feel intimated when you walk into a yoga studio and see all the flexible women/. If so join us on Monday nights from 730-830pm for a beginners and intermediate flow class.  This class is great for guys who are just starting their yoga practice.  All levels 

Barre 

 NO BARRE EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. Classic Barre is a Ballet inspired fitness format that strengthens your mind and sculpts your body. It is a fusion of pilates, yoga, and strength training that will improve your posture, balance, flexibility, and overall strength.

Restorative

A meditative practice with a focus on relaxation, including resting postures in which the body is supported by bolsters, blankets, and blocks.  All levels.

Hatha 

A good practice for those wanting to avoid weight bearing into shoulders and wrists due to injury or sensitivity. Practice builds strength, stability, balance and flexibility.  This is a more stationary practice with some slow flow, without plank transitions (i.e., no high to low plank to up dog, to down dog).

Vigorous Flow 

A strong flow class combining breath and energetic poses. Options for arm balances, binds and inversions will be given with time allowed to explore. We will focus on poses that build strength to allow you to float and fly!

Chair Yoga 

A gentle practice for those dealing with physical limitations such as those related to arthritis, joint replacement, early stage Parkinson’s disease, Lyme disease, and Fibromyalgia.  Programs are also helpful in managing depression, anxiety, stress, and loss.  This 60-min class includes seated yoga (in a chair), standing poses to gain strength, flexibility, and improve balance; and, a practice of mindful mediation to calm the nervous system and reduce stress.  This class involves gentle movement and active stretching
